Discover a new interest. Forge a new path. Meet new friends—all while living and learning in one of the world's greatest cities.

At NYC Summer Academy, students don’t just study—they experience. With New York City as both their home and classroom, they join a legacy of bold thinkers, writers, and creators who have shaped the world from this vibrant metropolis.

From world-renowned museums and theaters to cutting-edge startups and global media hubs, the city offers endless opportunities for inspiration and exploration. Our program connects students with journalists and media industry experts who guide them through hands-on learning, real-world experiences, and unforgettable adventures.

Academic and non-academic experiences are seamlessly integrated, creating a holistic environment where students grow intellectually, socially, and creatively. Whether in the classroom, on city excursions, or in conversations with peers, students are constantly learning, questioning, and discovering together.

Living in New York City

Housing

Students will be housed in a dorm-like facility in the heart of New York City. Roommates are assigned by gender identity and age. Building security and residential staff are present in the residence hall and available to students 24/7. The residence hall is air-conditioned and also contains student lounges and programming spaces.

Residential Life

Residential program staff members, including the Residential Directors, reside adjacent to students in the residence hall. Academic residential assistants are undergraduate students and recent graduates who supervise program participants in residential life activities and serve as well-informed educational guides throughout the program. They ensure students are in a safe and nurturing environment that is also fun and engaging. Academic residential assistants are joined by other staff who are responsible for organizing extracurricular activities and ensuring smooth program operations.

Dining

Students will eat most of their meals in the housing facility’s cafeteria-style dining halls that serve a wide variety of healthy menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The dining halls may provide vegetarian and vegan options. In addition to meals in the dining halls, students will also have opportunities to partake in the diverse range of food options that New York City offers.

Our Commitment to Diversity

The School of The New York Times is committed to making its programs accessible to students from all backgrounds. Our Diverse Voices Scholarship Program aims to improve the availability, access, and equity of learning opportunities by providing scholarships based on financial need.
